Life-wide Learning Activity: Exploring Hakka Walled Village Culture in the New Territories
To support curriculum development and embrace the philosophy of “learning beyond the classroom,” 144 students and teachers from our school embarked on a cultural exploration of a Hakka walled village in the New Territories on November 18. This activity allowed students to step into historical buildings and, through on-site observation and exploration, gain a deeper understanding of the history and architectural features of local Hakka culture. It was a wonderful opportunity to bridge textbook knowledge with real-world experiences.
During the visit, students not only admired the charm of the ancient walled village but also tried their hand at making traditional Cha Kwo (tea cakes) and enjoyed authentic local delicacies. Witnessing the students’ focused and curious expressions as they explored, we believe this tradition-filled day has inspired them to further cherish and appreciate our unique cultural heritage.
